Naam Yoga is more than yoga, as it combines esoteric spiritual methodologies from the East and West into a comprehensive, yet accessible, practice. It incorporates the use of movement/poses, breath work, hand positions (mudras) and chanting of healing meditations (mantra) in a systematic way designed to heal disease, relieve chronic and emotional pain, manage stress, release self-limiting thought patterns, reduce anxiety, depression, and bring balance to the body, mind and spirit. Naam Yoga is a holistic system for self-healing and self-realization that addresses the entire being while harmonizing the individual with life itself.
There are three main pillars of Naam Yoga. The first is mantra meditation practice that accesses the power of sound, known as Naam, the Sacred Word, with physical movement unique to Naam Yoga. It employs sacred sound to direct energy of the body in order to change its molecular vibration. Thus, the frequency of the body is ultimately raised for self-healing, increased vitality and clarity of mind. The sound current, Naam, can be used effectively by anyone, from any walk of life, because Naam recognizes that all paths emanate from one Divine source. As it is said, “Knowledge never comes from only one place and light never enters through only one window.” Naam is universal in nature, for sound, in the form of mantra or prayer, comes from various traditions including Judaism, Christianity, Sikhism and Hinduism, through Gurmukhi, Latin, Hebrew, Sanskrit and English languages. This allows students from every tradition to feel comfortable while enabling them to receive a comprehensive system designed to elevate their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
The second pillar of Naam Yoga is the physical practice of Shakti Naam Yoga. Shakti Naam addresses the entire body, from head to toe, and is beneficial for people of every age and fitness level, via yogic movement combinations and poses. Sukshama Vyayama, the ancient yogic technology that addresses the energetic body is a key component of Shakti Naam Yoga. Developed by His Holiness, Maharishi Karthikeyaji Maharaj, Sukshma Vyayama is unknown to most in the West. It engages each organ, joint and muscle group and the body’s energetic pathways, employing particular yogic breathing techniques paired with bandhas (energy locks), mudras (hand seals) and points of focus, in order to rejuvenate the energetic body, which sustains the physical body. Powerful and effective, these techniques have measurable healing impact on the glandular, nervous, circulatory, digestive and neurological systems. Shakti Naam is derived from an ancient, pure lineage, tracing back to Patanjali and is the perfect yoga for this age as its capacity to buffer stress, heighten creativity, clear the mind of negativity, improve memory and strengthen the nervous system is unparalleled. Former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, recommended Sukshma Vyayama in a public letter to the nation as the “keep-fit” routine for modern times.
The third pillar of Naam Yoga is the wisdom of the mathematics of spirituality and the laws of nature termed, Divine Spiritual Wisdom. This pillar allows us to understand that the principles and forces directing the cycles of nature in the Universe work in our individual lives. Obeying these Natural Laws brings us under their protection, saves us from unnecessary adversity, and allows us to develop the capacity to act in new and improved ways by providing a neutral platform from which we are able to harmonize our lives with the whole of Creation. As we honor nature and invite order, increased levels of clarity and light are received. The practical application of the Divine Spiritual Wisdom reveals the power we have as humans to transform fate into destiny. Using the Divine Spiritual Wisdom as a road map, one aligns with a higher will and can make informed choices that lead to a healthy, successful life.
Naam Yoga evolved from years of study and mastery of several schools of yoga, the study of the arcane wisdom of the ancients, and a variety of esoteric practices and applied sciences, ranging from the meridian system to spiritual psychology and neuroscience. The synthesis of the power of sound (Naam), Shakti Naam Yoga and Divine Spiritual Wisdom is unprecedented and powerful, yet accessible and practical. It leads to profound shifts in student’s health and consciousness. It deepens self-knowledge and gives clear perception of the self and others engendering compassion and unconditional love. As one delves deeply into working with the three components of Naam Yoga, one heals and comes to recognize the Divine in all teachings, in each person and in him/herself. This level of consciousness unites all beings in peaceful coexistence and brings light and alignment to the individual so that they can participate in bringing light and alignment to the earth. This is the ultimate goal of Naam Yoga, to awaken consciousness and light within – the journey beginning with self-healing.
