I’m excited to embark on a new journey at Shift: dialogues at the frontiers of shifting our culture and our consciousness.
The theme for the first dialogue reflects the recognition that as a planet, we're at the cusp of turning from a patriarchal era into an era in which there's a sacred balance between masculine and feminine.
One of the most interesting discussions I've had recently on this topic was with Anahita Anais, a nervous system coach, author, and speaker who also works as a psychedelic integration guide. She grew up in Iran, and has a very interesting perspective on how some of the cultural systems related to the nervous system and cultural change can contribute to how we shift beyond a patriarchal consciousness.
I hope you find these concepts and ideas from our dialogue relevant to your own life. Rather than write an article this month, I recorded an hour-long video with Anahita, which you can watch at the link below. To give you a taste, here’s a short excerpt from our conversation:
Stephen: The way I see it is that our political evolution is going to come not from an elimination of the polarities between masculine and feminine, because there are different perspectives on policy, how we govern ourselves, how we do things, but there's a kind of a melting into a deeper sense of unity left and right, that we're all Americans and we're all sort of in this together. There's a sense of a collaborative coming together to synthesize rather than just try to overthrow each other, one way or the other. We've been locked in this pitched battle of left versus right for quite some time, and it's gotten more and more exaggerated, but underneath, it's not going to just be that the left is going to overthrow the right. It's like we both have to kind of melt into something bigger together.
Anahita: I really love that, just the idea that we melt it, that we don't fight it, we don't overthrow it. And I come back to this difference between force and power. No one likes force. No one likes to be forced into anything. And the further we get to the extreme end of the spectrum, the more of the forcing seems to be happening. There's almost a demand to bend the knee, get online, believe this thing, and demand that everybody else adopts a specific worldview, ideology, belief system. Otherwise, you're going to be labeled, you're going to be judged, you're going to be shunned. And it reinforces that reaction in the nervous system that says, I don't want to, so it sends us into that state of self-protection, aggression, primal response. We can't do anything about it. So the answer to none of this is going to come from the fight and from the resistance.
